Christian Carpentry
One of the members at St.Johns, Chris Fraser, is a craftsman when working in wood.
The Vicar commissioned Chris to build us a replacement portable font, since the one we had at the time
was somewhat unstable, and had developed a leak. Chris was back within days with the designs for the
font you see pictured above.
He tells us that the three different woods together
represent the Holy Trinity, with the white being a corion (representing the Holy Spirit), the purple
being Brazilian Purple Heartwood (representing the Blood of Christ), and the remainder is
oak (the reliability of the Father). A corion, so we are told, is a very hard surface similar to what one
might use for a worktop. The bowl is stainless steel.
As you see from the picture below, the Vicar is delighted with it, and it is generally admired by all.
Chris is open to commissions from anywhere that could benefit from his skills. Contact him via
the Church Office (tel: 01803 401316)
